John H. Kitzmann
John H. Kitzmann practices in the area of family law, business law, commercial litigation and appeals.
Mr. Kitzmann is a graduate of the University of Virginia School of Law. Following graduation, he practiced commercial litigation and bankruptcy at the law firm of Knapp, Peterson & Clarke in Glendale, California. Mr. Kitzmann returned to Virginia to continue his law practice at the international firm, McGuireWoods LLP, where he practiced in the firm's corporate law section, serving Fortune 500 companies as well as growing regional corporations and local businesses. Mr. Kitzmann is a founder and partner at Davidson & Kitzmann, PLC.
Experience
Mr. Kitzmann's recent representations in the area of family law have involved a divorce involving more than $3,000,000.00 in marital property located in California, Utah and Virginia, divorce litigation concerning the value and distribution of a multinational corporation, complex child visitation disputes between divorcing physician and lawyer spouses relocating for their careers, sucessfully obtaining custody for clients in cases involving parental alienation, substance abuse, domestic violence, and psychological issues.Mr. Kitzmann's recent representations in the area of business law and commercial litigation include a dispute regarding the buy-sell obligations among the former partners of a dissolving law firm partnership, a dispute between members of a dissolving medical practice, purchases and sales of telecommunications, security, medical and accounting businesses, a non-competition dispute between a healthcare provider forming a new practice and the owners of his former practice, a breach of contract action between a Northern Virginia technology company and an executive placement consultant, the successful defense of a local business charged with violation of the Fair Labor Standards Act, and the formation and counseling of numerous new limited liability companies, S-corporations, non-profit corporations, partnerships, and other business entities.
Mr. Kitzmann also represents numerous homeowner's associations in the Charlottesville area.
Mr. Kitzmann is proud of his appellate experience. Appellate advocacy depends heavily on excellent writing skills and legal analysis. Mr. Kitzmann uses his appellate experience and skills both to protect clients he has represented at the trial level and also to help new clients who have had other lawyers represent them at the trial level.
