John H. Kitzmann
John H. Kitzmann practices in the area of appeals, family law, business law, and commercial litigation. Mr. Kitzmann is a graduate of the University of Virginia School of Law. Following graduation, he practiced commercial litigation and bankruptcy at the law firm of Knapp, Peterson & Clarke in Glendale, California. Mr. Kitzmann returned to Virginia to continue his law practice at the international firm, McGuireWoods LLP, where he practiced in the firm's corporate law section, serving Fortune 500 companies as well as growing regional corporations and local businesses.
Mr. Kitzmann's recent representations in the area of family law have involved successful fights for the jurisdiction of Virginia courts over the jurisdiction of California courts in a divorce involving more than $3,000,000.00 in marital property, litigation concerning the value and distribution of a multinational corporation, and complex child visitation disputes between divorcing physician and lawyer spouses relocating for their careers.
Mr. Kitzmann's recent representations in the area of business law and commercial litigation include a dispute regarding the buy-sell obligations among the former partners of a dissolving law firm partnership, purchases of telecommunications, security, medical and accounting businesses, a non-competition dispute between a healthcare provider forming a new practice and the owners of his former practice, a breach of contract action between a Northern Virginia technology company and an executive placement consultant, and the formation and counseling of numerous new limited liability companies, S-corporations, non-profit corporations, partnerships, and other business entities.
Mr. Kitzmann is admitted to practice before the United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit, the United States District Courts for the Eastern and Western Districts of Virginia, and before the Supreme Court of the Commonwealth of Virginia.
Mr. Kitzmann is a member of the American Bar Association (ABA), the Virginia Bar Association, the Virginia Trial Lawyers Association, the Thomas Jefferson Inn of Court, and the Charlottesville-Albemarle Bar Association.
Mr. Kitzmann's most recent service was as the Secretary/Treasurer of the Thomas Jefferson Inn of Court.
